What is a 3-Layer Colour Code?

Some colour codes are classified as 3-layer colours. These finishes are not achieved with a single paint product. They require two paint components to be applied together – a Base and a Pearl. Because of this, these colours must always be purchased in pairs (2 units), whether you are buying aerosol cans, paint tins, or any other format. One unit alone will not produce the correct colour or finish.
A 3-layer system works by first applying the Base coat, which is typically a simple solid colour and forms the foundation of the finish. This is followed by the Pearl layer, which is transparent and provides the sparkle, candy effect, or chromatic depth. Once both layers are applied correctly, a clear coat is applied as the final step to protect the finish and bring out the full visual effect.
Common 3 layer colours include Pearl Whites, Bright Vibrant pearl colours and Candy colours.
